This pastel painting "Rusty Creek" 12 x 24 is in the Women Artists of the West show in the McBride Gallery in Annapolis, Maryland. It will be shown there until the end of January. What an honor to have my painting featured in a National Show with the talented Women Artists of the West!
The End of Winter--Eastern Colorado, 24 x 30 Pastel
I was very happy when Senator Michael Bennet selected this pastel painting for his Conference Room two years ago, and even happier this year when they decided to keep it there!
Sometimes when you paint things just fall into place and it's like they almost paint themselves!
This was the case with this painting. I used a large sheet of Wallis Belgian Mist paper (which is no longer made, darn it) and it just worked out like it was meant to be.Diane Edwardshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04603535700749141234noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-137566476462759215.post-87519947965431686332015-09-02T15:48:00.002-07:002015-09-02T15:48:28.315-07:00

"Bales on the Front Range of Colorado", Oil on linen, 24" x 36".

Sometimes I am looking for the spectacular mountain scene and sometimes just the placid, calm and beautiful scenes of our rural state of Colorado. Since I grew up in North Dakota, I enjoy the sight of the rich farming and ranching tradition here on the Front Range of Colorado.

My painting is mainly about the details and the smaller features in the landscape, and, of course, the light in our high altitude state. I love the warm light of early evening and how it illuminates the landscape. This painting is obviously that time of day with the mountains receding into the atmosphere and the warm light on the golden bales. I love the texture and brush strokes that make the painting look like it was painted by the hand of an artist. I have been painting for over 35 years and scenes like this are always interesting and beautiful to me.Diane Edwardshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04603535700749141234noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-137566476462759215.post-84083938916412087332013-12-21T09:06:00.000-08:002013-12-21T09:07:30.620-08:00Rollin' Up the Barbed Wire, Gilman Peterson Christmas print from the Edwards family

Merry Christmas and God July from Diane and Dale Edwards
I decided to do my annual Christmas print as a tribute to my Dad, Gilman Peterson, who would have been 100 years old this year. He lived to be 95 so we were all lucky to have him for so many years. This painting was done from a photo of him doing what he loved to do, work on his treasured farm/ranch. The hill in the background was named after his father, Halvor's Hill, and is a landmark of the area, topped with a 75 foot flag pole put up after World War I as a tribute to the veterans of the area.
Dad put his whole life into our farm, and, of course, we all helped! There was always plenty of work to go around and my Dad was a meticulous farmer, actually enjoying the kind of tedious work most farmers didn't even bother with, like rolling up the barbed wire so the cattle, deer, antelope but especially the horses wouldn't be harmed.
Dale and I have had a great year, enjoying our grandchildren and doing some traveling. Dale is retired, but doing some part time security officer work at the hospital and I am not retired...painting almost every day! It is work, but the kind my Dad enjoyed...productive and enjoyable!
We hope you all have a great Christmas!

My painting Early Sun at Eldorado Canyon was accepted into the AANC 23rd National Show which opens on April 5th here in beautiful downtown Fort Collins, CO. The show is at Cocoa Gallery, 148 Oak Street and the opening is from 5 to 9 next Friday.
This painting was done from a study which I did at the Pastel Society of Colorado Plein Air at Eldorado Canyon last year. It was a very cold and somewhat windy morning, but when the sun hit those aspens I had my camera in my hand!! I am a slothful blogger, and it's about time I started adding a few things! It was so great to participate in the Bath Nursery Art in Bloom again this year. Rhonda, from Florals with Rhonda, came to my studio and picked out one of my all time favorite paintings, Serene Reflections, to use as an inspiration for her floral as shown above. I also had four other paintings in the show as seen in the photo. What a beautifully presented show this was this year. There were 10 artists and 10 or more florals done from the inspiration of the paintings.

I am thrilled to say I sold a couple of my paintings this year, life is very good. Maybe the art sales corners are turning!! I also sold one last week so now I can go get new tires on my poor van, which is complaining loudly to me as I slip and slide around town. It's time!!

Happiness is feeling like you are painting for a purpose! Now as soon as my nose heals up and I can actually stand to wear my glasses again, I'll get back to work.
This painting of Chasm Falls is going to the RH Hanna Gallery in Fredericksburg, TX as part of the Women Artists of the West Show in November and December.
So excited to get a piece in this fabulous show! The Women Artists of the West organization is a fine one for women to show their work, and fraternize with other professional women artists. I didn't realize that praying for rain would give us a flooded basement. Oh, well, I guess I definitely got what I asked for! Next year we may have a good laugh out of it, in the meantime, we got a dehumidifer!! The sales clerks thought Dale was crazy when he asked for one. "In THIS climate?" they said, looking at him like he was asking for a dinosauer! This is only a mile or so from our house! The worst, most scary fire I have ever seen and so close that we can smell every stick it seems that is burning. We are so lucky that we are on the east side of that huge body of water! Hundreds of houses have burned and many animals have perished. We need rain so drastically, we're all doing the rain dance, but to no avail. Our prayers are with all those fire fighters who are putting their lives on the line for all of us!
Diane Edwardshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04603535700749141234noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-137566476462759215.post-9464093874580652872012-06-08T17:21:00.002-07:002012-06-08T17:21:25.664-07:00The last two weeks!!

My two paintings, From the Edge of the Swamp, as seen below and in the Roxburough Art Association, "Artists of Colorado Show" in the Madden Museum in Greenwood Village, CO was chosen as a Sponsors Award for Sterling Ranch in Douglas County. The Opening was yesterday and the show will be open the rest of June.

And my oil painting, Lower Chasm Falls, as seen here, was selected for First Place. Also, the most exciting thing was that Lower Chasm Falls was chosen as the People's Choice Award at the AANC Celebration of Color Show in Fort Collins. I feel that People's Choice is really a great honor. Often a Judge's Award is while certainly informed, still just one person's opinion. So I am one happy camper, as well as feeling very lucky. My husband keeps asking me to buy a Lotto ticket!!

Thisis one of my paintings selected for the Greeley National Show this June. Opening is June 1, I have two other paintings in the show. I'm so glad that they have resurrected their show again, it was really missed.

My own Solo Show will be opening June 1 in Fort Collins in the Cocoa Gallery on Oak Street. I have about 70 or more paintings showing in this venue (the same one the AANC National Show was in). I am hoping a lot of my friends stop in, my friend Glenna is making great Scandinavian treats to go along with my paintings, and Norwegian and Swedish decorative Art. I hope its a lot of fun for everyone. My sister and step mother are going to be there, too!

It's just amazing how much work I have created in the last 35 years!http://www.dianeedwardsart.com/Diane Edwardshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04603535700749141234noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-137566476462759215.post-46970768834294183672012-05-19T14:47:00.001-07:002012-05-19T14:48:15.616-07:00Master Signature StatusThis has been quite the week. Last Saturday the Pastel Society of Colorado approved my application for Master Pastel Signature Status! What made me the happiest was that I had spent so much time in service to the Pastel Society as a board member, VP, workshop and publicity director and seven years as the Signature Chairman. I had many points in entries and awards in National and International Shows and publications, 50 in all, which surprised me as the minimum for Master Pastelist is 12!! Guess I could have done it sooner.
From the Edge of the Swamp, 26 x 39. Fountain Nature Preserve, Pastel
This has been my goal for many years, along with my Master's degree and losing weight!! Now I am thinking about new goals, but I will enjoy the ones I have achieved for awhile.
This week was also my birthday and I got a lot of greetings and cards and we went out to dinner at Canino's, a great Italian local restaurant.
This painting was chosen for the Artists of Colorado Show at the Madden Museum at Greenwood Village for the month of June. The juror was well respected Master Pastelist, Doug Dawson, who has written best selling books on pastel, so that was really a thrill.Diane Edwardshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04603535700749141234noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-137566476462759215.post-18261060336274074072012-03-06T16:20:00.001-08:002012-03-06T16:23:38.204-08:00Paintings at Bath Nursery in Fort Collins

I am so thrilled that this painting sold today to a woman from Australia. She will have it shipped! It was wonderful to have them all together.Diane Edwardshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04603535700749141234noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-137566476462759215.post-81613884983412577222011-11-29T19:04:00.000-08:002011-11-29T19:09:48.741-08:00Now am I just a little prejudiced or is Lilli cuter than Shirley Temple? Todd's cousin's wife, Michelle, is a fabulous photographer and this is one of her best, I think!
My sister Nancy Dean gave her this princess coat and hat. Just lovely!

Diane Edwardshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04603535700749141234noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-137566476462759215.post-62722577996176752032011-11-19T16:12:00.000-08:002011-11-19T16:16:23.736-08:00Vicki's dog, Chewy I enjoyed painting my sister's beautiful huge dog, Chewy. They found him in Italy, he was a stray who was abused by the Italians, mainly because he is so big and I imagine was looking through all the garbage bags.

Chewy is not so well now so we are all thinking about him and wishing him a return to health very soon. He is a very sweet, loving dog.

Diane Edwardshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04603535700749141234noreply@blogger.com0
